Covid -19 and its Impact in India

In 2020, India reeled under the first wave of coronavirus that peaked around September. The wave swept almost each and every part of India and painted a grim prospect for the entire country's health and economy. Yet, the maximum number of daily cases in 2020 never breached the six-figure mark.

Now, nearly 6 months after the peak of the first wave, coronavirus cases in India once again started rising from first week of March signaling the arrival of the second wave of the pandemic in the country.Doing analysis of both the waves of covid-19, we could see that there is no major shift in the way different age groups have been affected by covid-19 in the two waves.

In second wave of covid-19 this year, the older population continues to be more vulnerable whereas only a marginal increase has been recorded in the number of younger people testing positive for coronavirus. As we could see the hospitals are grappling with an inadequate supply of oxygen as high proportions of patients are facing oxygenation issues. Therefore, the need for oxygen has remained relatively higher this time, as against the previous surge, where more patients required just ventilator support.
